Daimler was known as the official car for Royalty in 1898. Today, they are fit for any king and queen, especially on their wedding day! Shirley Hall tells us about her desirable Daimler.
This car came as a bit of a surprise. My husband John wanted a Daimler so he asked a gentleman to buy one in England and he got two instead!
It cost $2,000 which was a lot in those days and it came over in such a mess! We rebuilt it, painted it, upholstery, everything. There's also a lot of upkeep to maintain an older car like this.
We've been driving wedding cars for 25 years. When we were doing them more often I used to drive this one all the time. At one stage we had six cars on the go! We've had a couple of hiccups over the years... this is the day a girl spends the most amount of money on herself she'll ever spend and you don't want to mess it up with a flat tyre.
Weddings are pretty stressful events, but romantic as well. You can feel the vibrations between a couple on their day. Some of them you know they'll be together forever, you can just tell.
I remember this one girl who just wanted to be queen for the day; no one was allowed to touch her dress! The poor groom was doing everything he could to make her happy and I just felt so sorry for him!
John still drives the Daimler today, it's the only car big enough to fit his model glider in the back!
