Debbie's Dream Wheels

Debbie's hi-tech BMW 650i

Ah, the dream car; we all have one. Debbie Ellison’s dream car had to be a convertible, and her dream came true in January of 2007. Debbie owns the first ever BMW 650i to be brought into Perth. This car is one serious set of wheels!

“It makes me feel alive,” says Debbie who describes her car as sexy, serious, and sophisticated. “It’s serious, but it has the fun factor.” Debbie’s car cheers her up on a bad day, as she cruises in it to the beach or around Applecross. Although the 650i can cruise, it’s more of a fast car. Debbie can be found dominating the traffic light drag offs around Applecross on a regular basis.

Debbie has found her car to be the ultimate party accessory. “A girlfriend and I did Thelma and Louise in it on one of our girls’ nights,” she says. “We waved our hands in the air through the roof!”

The 650i is impressively hi-tech. The speedometer can be viewed in the windscreen, only by the driver, allowing Debbie to have fun pretending to be a fighter pilot. A favourite aspect for her is how quickly the roof goes down at the touch of a button. The voice activated CD and radio are a safety feature as well as being fun and funky.  It’s been a big change from her previous car, a Mercedes VI25600, “a real granddad car” she says.

The only problem with owning a beautiful car is the ensuing paranoia that something might happen to it. Debbie admits she won’t drive her prize wheels to Garden City, due to a previous bad experience involving a Land Rover, and some very big roo bars.

The one year anniversary of her purchase has passed, but if the novelty of her new toy has worn off, it doesn’t show. So, next time you drive through Applecross, keep your eye out for Perth’s own Thelma and Louise duo, “minus the cliff at the end!” says Debbie!
