Emma's 1928 Model A Roadster

Hot Rodding at the Super Cruise

The Hot Rod

Emma Taylor spoke to Perth Woman about the love her life, a beautiful 1928 Model A Roadster, which she restored herself!

My name is Emma Taylor and I am 19 years old, a hot rodder and a beauty therapist. Since a young age I have been involved in the Nu Breed Street Rod Club which our family are members of. I always enjoyed participating in the many cruises the club organised as well as those organised by other clubs.

After school I would always rush home to get my Dad’s Cruising magazine out of the letter box before he did. I would run inside and lock myself away in my room, flick straight to the ‘For Sale’ section and dream about owning my own hot rod.

This time I noticed a beautiful blue 1928 Model A Roadster from Queensland. Before my Dad could take his work boots off, I had him on the phone finding out all the information he could. The very next morning, Mum woke me and told me my Dad was on the phone to the owner who was a hot rodder in Queensland. By the end of the day, the hot rod was mine.

It finally arrived in December 2006 and my Mum drove it home. I was still on my ‘P’ plates at that stage and the first time I drove it I had the ‘P’ plate attached to the grill. For the next seven months I had to drive it with ‘P’ plates.

In Easter 2007 I went with my family to the Moora Campout where the hot rodders were given the hockey ground to stay in. I towed a camper trailer to Moora with my Dad beside me (with my ‘P’ plates up, as it is the only one in the family with a tow bar) and my Mum drove their 1927 T Tudor with other Rods from our club. It rained on the concert day, but that didn’t stop me. We were even invited to join the ute parade through Moora which was exciting, with everyone cheering.

In February 2008, I took my boyfriend and hot rod down to Motivation for the weekend. Here I participated in the Super Cruise, down the drag strip and did a few burnouts whenever I could. I have been on many cruises since I have had my Roadster. I take it along the coast on a nice sunny day, or a hot summer’s night just to let the wind blow through my hair. There is nothing nicer.

The amount of friends I have made through hot rodding, will make me want to continue and become the next generation of rodder.
