Swan Valley Beauty
There is a brand new centre for wellness which has opened in Western Australia. Nestled in the picturesque Swan Valley is Restore Wellness, a holistic wellbeing centre, owned and created by Mandy Bruford.
Mandy shares with Perth Woman Magazine her inspiring story of challenge, recovery, and ultimately, wellness.
‘Body, Mind and Soul Restoration,’ is the motto of Restore Wellness. They are loaded words for owner Mandy Bruford, who has overcome more than her fair share of challenges in the past few years. For her to be back at work, which she never expected, as well as sharing a personality, bubbly and positive is remarkable and inspiring. She is living proof of a body, mind, and soul restored, and is now working to provide these services to others.
Mandy is a trained therapist with an Associate Diploma in Health Science. She has studied Remedial Massage and spent 12 months studying to become a Reiki Master. Previously she owned two clinics, one in her home in Willeton, and one in Leederville.
In 1996 she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. It was aggressive, as was the chemo therapy and radiation therapy she had to undergo. The treatment left her suffering a very stubborn case of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.
“For the next three years, I was pretty much out for the count,” she says, “I was sleeping for up to 18-20 hours a day. I never would have believed how bad it is if I hadn’t experienced it myself.”
During this stage in her life, she discovered a brand of household products called Melaluca, which aims to reduce toxins in a person’s day to day life. “I changed all the household products, and within two weeks I was out of bed,” she says. Mandy now sells these products from her practice.
In 2004 she met and married husband Martin. Between them they had five teenagers, making for an interesting period in their lives. “We thought ‘we wonder if there are any houses for sale with six bedrooms?’ We looked in the paper and there were three for sale that day.”
Restore Wellness signals Mandy’s triumph over illness and her return to work. Along with her skills and experience, she brings an added empathy with those who have experienced illness or set backs in their lives.
Restore Wellness uses a broad range of natural therapies to give the most complete treatment possible. These include reiki, reflexology, aromatherapy, colour, crystal and sound therapy, flower and shell remedies, and corporate and stress management programs. She knows that there is no prescribed treatment for every patient. “I’m never going to give the same treatment for any two people. I use all my knowledge and training to determine what each person needs.”
