Top 10 commandments

Love your body

Loving your body

To survive in this fast paced world you need to live by a code. In this spirit, we present to you The Ten Commandments, passed down by the Perth Woman writing staff on high.

Know your worth

No matter what our physical condition, we are all someone’s daughter, sister or mother worthy of love and self respect. Every one of us has personal value and deserves the best in life, love and happiness. All we have to do is believe it.

Strive to understand true health
True health can be defined as mental, physical and spiritual wellbeing which allows us to live each day as we choose. It pays to constantly seek the truth in health and fitness as new research is always being done to improve our physical wellbeing and quality of life.

Accept your genes
Unfortunately we can't all be six-foot-one supermodels with sky high metabolisms and cheek bones you could rest a wine glass on. Curves are ultra feminine whether you are a pear, apple or hourglass shape and are becoming more prominent in popular advertising campaigns.

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it
Breast implants, false nails, liposuction…. Will they really make all our troubles disappear and the people around us love us more? Sometimes just a change in attitude towards our own bodies can bring the much needed peace and acceptance we need without outlaying thousands of dollars.

Make smart choices
We all have those moments where we wished we had chosen the wholemeal salad roll over the lasagna and caesar salad dish and that is even before we have paid for it. Catching ourselves out in the midst of poor food choices can save us a lot of grief down the track and a lot of time in the gym.

Nourish yourself
If your body is not getting the nutrients it needs from your diet it pays to invest in some good quality multi-vitamins and mineral supplements. Our bodies are designed to repair themselves as long as we feed them the elements they require. If you are more active or stressed than normal then consider a visit to a naturopath.

Indulge a little
Treats and little indulgences make life worth living and clean eating worth adjusting to. When we deprive ourselves, it is natural to obsess about what we are cutting out of our eating plan. A little bit of what we crave is good for our soul, as long as the little bit is not too often!

Chill out
Mental, physical and emotional stress all show up in our bodies in the disguises of disease, acne, aches and illness. The more intense the stress, the longer recovery time our bodies need to regain its natural, healthy state. Make sure you take your annual leave, schedule one day off work a week and never skimp on a decent night’s sleep.

Challenge yourself
Our bodies are designed to run, climb, push, pull, bend and stretch… so make the most of it! Physically pushing ourselves within reasonable limits is what keeps us strong, alive and mentally stable. Having a fitness goal can give us something to aim for and a sense of achievement which overflows into other areas of our lives.

Laugh out loud!
We’ve all heard the saying, ‘Laughter is the best medicine’.Aside from giving our facial and abdominal muscles a decent workout, research suggests that a moment of mirth increases immune-boosting growth hormones and endorphins.
