I have been exercising five to six days a week for the last few months on my treadmill and have lost a few kilos that I am really happy about. I can see big improvements in my legs but nothing on my butt. Can you suggest a better exercise to work my butt more?
– Meagan G. Clarkson
That is awesome news about the success you are having with your weight loss efforts and congratulations for sticking to your exercise plan. If you enjoy walking and don’t mind heading outdoors, I strongly recommend walking on normal ground or even better, beach sand. The problem with treadmills is that the ground is moving underneath you so your butt muscles hardly have to work to move you forward. On normal ground, you need to push off and carry yourself forward, activating the gluteals. Your quads and calves will be getting a great workout though. If you want to stay on the treadmill, just use the incline option and feel the burn!
Recently I have been considering reducing my caffeine intake as I have heard a lot of bad things about it. What is your take on the “caffeine debate” and what benefits would I gain from eliminating it from my diet?
– Michelle R. Bunbury
Hot topic, Michelle, and great question. Personally, I have recently gone cold turkey off the caffeine and although the first couple of weeks were challenging, I feel a lot more calm and steady than ever before. But what do the authorities say? According to a recent study by the NSW Institute of Sport, caffeine does not dehydrate you and may actually boost athletic performance. Because caffeine is rapidly absorbed, if taken within 60 minutes before exercise it will reduce your perception of effort and increase mental alertness and reaction times. Just stick to skinny versions!
Until next time! Love, Britt
