Going for Gold

Kiren Mainwaring

Dear Friends Restaurant

Western Australia’s most awarded restaurant, Dear Friends, has a new face - Chef Kiren Mainwaring. Finalists in the upcoming prestigious 2008 Gold Plate award, Kiren and his Canadian-born wife Kelli have been managing the renowned restaurant for just over a year, during which time their menu has found widespread acclaim.

Having travelled extensively through Europe, Asia and Australia working in some of the finest award-winning restaurants, Kiren and Kelli have gained an appreciation of diverse cuisines. After settling in WA, they worked at the Bay Cottage in Dunsborough and Le Paris Brest in Kalamunda, before taking over management of Dear Friends. Today they are passionate about international food and specialise in combining elements of various culinary traditions and flavours, providing you with an imaginative and inventive menu.

Their acclaimed winter menu contains a diverse range of entrees such as the succulent Timber Hill Pork with West Australian Cuttlefish, served with Chinese preserved sausage. Delicious main courses such as Game Birds with Manjimup Truffle; duck with orange and saffron churros, quail with Chanterelle mushrooms and pheasant with Manjimup truffle, go hand-in-hand with enticing desserts such as the Celebration of Valhrona Chocolate; semifreddo, chocolate and praline orb with milk chocolate foam.

Boasting an extensive wine list for the most refined palette, Dear Friends offers an array of locally produced Swan Valley wines alongside a Connoisseur collection and cocktails.

Kiren’s extensive knowledge comes from a career history spanning many years. He began his training at the well known Wolfscastle Country Hotel in his homeland of Wales and completed his training at the Wolfe Restaurant in the capacity of sous chef. He trained under the supervision of chef Mike Lewis, who was voted the Pembrokeshire Chef Of The Year in 1997, 1998 and 1999. He then worked as head chef at the Candlestores Restaurant, which was awarded the Taste of Wales Award during his tenure.

Kiren and Kelli, along with their exceptional team, ensure that the combination of fine food, wine and service is of the highest quality.

Just twenty minutes out from Perth, Dear Friends Restaurant can be found at 100 Benara Road in Caversham, but make sure to reserve a table on 9279 2815.
