In the harsh financial reality of today you may be worried about how you’re going to keep the kids entertained, especially when it comes to the school holidays. Never fear, because Perth Woman is here to help. Contrary to popular belief fun is very achievable on a tight budget; all you need to do is open your mind and you will be surprised by what’s on offer.
Some of the best options for keeping your kids entertained can be right around the corner, with local parks a great place to keep the kids fit, and they can spend hours coming up with the next game to play. Just get a group of kids together, organise a picnic and they will sort out the rest! The library is also a great place to take the kids, as they have reading groups and children’s shows regularly.
If you are after a bit of a road trip then head to the local store, and pick up some masks and snorkels for a couple of dollars each and take the kids to the beach and let them explore the wonders of our Western Australian coastline. All you need is a packed lunch and some sun block to keep the kids happy, so they can swim or build sandcastles all day. While on the coast why not hire a canoe or a little boat. This normally costs about $20 for a couple of hours.
Take the kids outside and let them use that built up energy on a leisurely bike ride. King’s Park is a great place to go with all the natural surroundings and a safe environment. Kid’s parks are also free to be used with Synergy Park a fun place for everyone.
Looking for something to do with the kids in the evening? Why not head to the drive-ins. The excitement of a big screen in the sky is amusing enough, before the movie even starts. There is a drive in cinema located in Kinsley and another at the Burswood Entertainment Complex.
Parents tend to forget the small things in life that are such a novelty to their children. Catching a train for example. Public transport is a cheap and efficient way to get around and the trip in itself provides an adventure for the kids. So take a trip to Perth City, there is plenty to see, including the West Australian Museum. Just a gold coin donation will ensure a day of fascination, for you and the kids.
Free events are always running, you just need to keep your eyes open. Great places to look are community boards and your local newspaper. You can also keep updated on the web by visiting your city council website or searching for ‘free family events’ on most search engines. The Perth Woman website is Family friendly and is regularly updated with fun events for the entire family in the ‘What’s on’ Section.
