Kris & Sam's Wild Wedding
We had been looking for a venue in Perth for our wedding, and nothing was really appealing to me. Kris said jokingly that we could just get married in Vegas, which lurked in the back of my mind. After a bit more looking I got tired and told Kris, “If you want a wedding you can organize it yourself, or we can just go to Vegas!” Then he got really excited.
"In Vegas you can get married in a limo, a helicopter, or have a drive through wedding"
We started looking at different ways to get married there. You can get married in a limo, a helicopter, or have a drive through wedding that’s like a MacDonalds! In the end we decided to get a limo and get married at the Graceland Wedding Chapel.
"The whole trip costs $10,000 but some people spend that on a wedding and only get one day; we got three weeks!"
We booked in July 2006 and flew out in February 2007. The whole trip costs $10,000 for airfares and accommodation, but some people spend that on a wedding and only get one day; we got three weeks!
Kris bought his suit shirt and shoes from Tarocash. Two months before we left I went dress shopping with my mum, and bought my dress from Giordano’s in Perth, and my shoes from Zu. She said, half jokingly, that she wanted to come. In the end she was serious! Then three days before we left Kris’s mum said she couldn’t handle it and she had to come to! In the end we had both of our mums, Kris’s stepdad and little brother, and my mum’s friend. I was really glad on the day that we had people there to share it with us.
We were picked up from our hotel by a white stretch limo and taken to the Graceland Chapel. During the ceremony Elvis walked me down the aisle. We thought if we were going to do it, we may as well make it as corny as possible! Every one had a bit of a laugh which is what we wanted – a fun, stress-free wedding. Kris and I always like to have fun together anyway. After the wedding the limo driver, who was great, went and got his bosses big limo to fit us all into and take us to the restaurant.
Vegas is unreal! We stayed two weeks there, and could’ve stayed two more. The people are so friendly and the place is so over the top you can just spend hours walking and looking at it!
