How long does the teeth whitening procedure take?
The inital treatment is either a 20 or 40 minute session depending on when you last had your teeth cleaned.
How long do the results last?
Up to two years depending on your lifestyle. After your treatment and by following our simple whitening care instructions, your teeth will always be lighter and whiter than they were before. To keep your teeth looking their best and to maintain the fantastic results you have achieved with Prestige Smile we recommend flossing, brushing twice daily and using one of our maintenance kits every three to six months or a touch up pen every two weeks.
Are there any side effects?
Sensitivity during and after the treatment may occur with some clients who have had teeth whitening but our accelerator light generates minimal heat in the blue-cyan range which is a cool light frequency negating the usual source of discomfort. On rare occasions minor tingling sensations are experienced immediately after the procedure but always dissipate. Using a sensitive toothpaste two week prior to treatment can prevent any sensitivity.
Is teeth whitening safe?
Hydrogen Peroxide, the active agent of whitening systems is actually produced in the body in small amounts and its effects have been studied for many years. It is not recommended for children under 16 or pregnant women.
How does it work?
Prestige Smile's specially formulated gel is applied directly to the tooth surface and the whitening cold-light activates the whitening gel to rapidly accelerate the whitening process. In just two 10 minute cycles (20 minute session) or four 10 minute cycles (40 minute session) tooth discolouration from years of staining from foods, coffee, tobacco, cola and red wine are eliminated leaving a beautiful, shiny white smile.
What causes tooth discolouration?
There are many causes, the most common include ageing, smoking and consumption of substances such as coffee, tea, colas and red wine etc. During tooth formation consumption of tetracycline, certain antibiotics or excessive fluoride may also cause tooth discolouration.
Can the treatment damage the tooth enamel?
Teeth whitening has been around for centuries in one form or another and there have been giant strides in technological improvement in the last 4 years with the gels that are used and the accelerator lights. Research from the UK, USA and Australia has not shown that there is any significant damage to enamel from the whitening process until the strength of the gel (hydrogen peroxide) exceeds 20%.
What is also known is that red wine, coffee, tea, colas, citrus juices and some medications are more commonly the culprits when it comes to enamel damage.
